The embodied interaction is a seminar for me and Lorenzo. It is divided into two parts, one for the presentation and one for the workshop. In the early stages of preparation, we conducted a series of readings, preparing workshops and small games for the warm-up.

Abstract. This paper presents an embodied interactive system designed for older adults to promote creative and social engagement, called Move and Paint. We performed a study to investigate the engagement and behavior patterns of older adults as they used Move and Paint. We conducted a focus group and interview study to understand general attitudes towards this gesture-based interactive system.

What is interaction design? HCI scholar/scientist Paul Dourish has hypothesized a different take on Interaction Design, that he terms as “ embodied interaction,” a new model of interpreting interaction that extends recent HCI research trends in “tangible” and “social” computing. 84 Dourish's argument is based upon the philosophical framework of phenomenology which is the study of experience and existence, that are intuitively felt and known by factual presence in the world. Embodied Cognition and the Magical Future of Interaction Design DAVID KIRSH, University of California, San Diego The theory of embodied cognition can provide HCI practitioners and theorists with new ideas about interac-tion and new principles for better designs. I support this claim with four ideas about cognition: (1) interacting Embodied Design Research Laboratory, Graduate School of Education, UC Berkeley Mathematics education designers and researchers are beginning to appreciate the pedagogical potential of embodied interaction (EI) instructional activities, yet little theory is available to understand its Embodied interaction describes the interplay between the brain and the body and its influence on the sharing, creation and manipulation of meaningful interactions with technology.

Here, we build on design-based research efforts centered on exploring the potential of embodied interaction (EI) for mathematics learning. We sketch two emerging, reciprocal contributions: (1) a sociocognitive view on the role of automated feedback in building the perceptuomotor schemes that undergird conceptual development; and (2) a heuristic EI design framework. Embodied Interaction is a new design-research field at the crossroads of Industrial Product Design (‘Smart Products’) and Interaction Design (Human-Media Interaction). It studies the interaction between humans and artifacts and does so ‘through’ design. 2017-06-01 · Paul Marshall, Alissa Antle, Elise Van Den Hoven, and Yvonne Rogers, “Introduction to the Special Issue on the Theory and Practice of Embodied Interaction in HCI and Interaction Design,” ACM Transactions on Computer-Human Interaction (TOCHI) 20, no.

Embodied interaction [3] should create a “seamless connection” between our bodies and the virtual space. But designers are often limited by the capacities of current interactive technologies to attain this seamlessness. For example, with many whole-body interaction designs, there is usually a physical Embodied Interaction draws on various social- and cognitive theories, philosophy and design frameworks that explain interaction as being fundamentally embodied and situated. In that vein, this The "Uncanny Valley" theory explains the counter-intuitive phenomenon where people may get suddenly uncomfortable with an artificial entity when it becomes very similar to humans. We propose the existence of an "uncanny valley" for embodied interaction, when a user's body motions in the physical space (the locus of interaction) are incompletely mapped into effects in the virtual space (the Laia Turmo Vidal is a Ph.D. candidate in interaction design and HCI at Uppsala University, Sweden.

Internet of things (IoT) artifacts form systems where touchscreen and speech interaction is the norm. As IoT systems are inherently open (artifacts can be added or removed, software can be updated), we observe that the natural state of an IoT system is changed, “growth.” This chapter describes a designerly experiment exploring how to design for embodied and rich interaction in these 2016-04-19 · It played a supporting role in the environment, it was part of the behavioral infrastructure and the embodied interaction wasn't broken or jarringuntil one day everything changed. I guess the soap dispenser's previously calm nature was attributed to a slowing dying battery, because one day the same dispenser's character completely changed, to what I can only attribute a battery change. I believe the user experience is now more than ever, a truly “embodied experience,” and we are just beginning to scratch the surface. Thank you for reading!

iterative design approach to the design of learning systems with embodied metaphor-based interaction models. An interaction model specifies the mappings between input action and output response. Although metaphorical map-pings are promoted by several others (e.g., [22, 23, 37]), little is known about how to identify embodied metaphors, Content, progress and pedagogy of the module. Objectives: The course presents the emerging theory of embodied interaction interleaved with practical implementations of intelligent systems, where the participants work on open-source, community-supported interactive audio-visual coding platforms, such as Processing and open Frameworks. Embodied Interaction The human body provides a rich resource for informing and inspiring meaningful tangible and embodied interaction design. On the other hand, interactive technology provides great opportunities for studying our embodied selves. We explore sensorimotor skills and couplings to shape extended bodily perception and experience.
